<p>When acid rises up into the oesophagus it causes it to become inflamed and at times painful because there is no protective lining there unlike the stomach. There are several causes of heartburn with the most common being eating large meals, smoking, pregnancy, and being overweight.</p>
<p><strong>Heartburn Treatment</strong></p>
<p>What are some of the things you can do to avoid getting heartburn? Well, other than pregnancy, the risk of a heartburn attack can be minimized in most other instances. Avoid eating large meals just before bedtime. Most of us have done it and I can tell you from personal experience, it&#8217;s a habit we can and should avoid.</p>
<p>Certainly if you&#8217;re a smoker then you should seriously consider quitting. Smoking is a known cause of heartburn particularly straight after a large meal.</p>
<p><strong>Food And Heartburn </strong></p>
<p>Eating large amounts of food at one time can increase the instance of heartburn. It&#8217;s often been said to eat your food in smaller amounts more often and this is just common sense. Food eaten in smaller amounts gives your digestive system a better chance of digesting it. Avoid bending unnecessarily after eating food.</p>
<p>Eat sensibly. Some foods can bring on the symptoms of heartburn for some people. If you find this is the case then you should either avoid them or seek medical advice.</p>
<p>Being overweight, bad posture and tight clothing can also be associated with heartburn.</p>
<p><strong>Baking Soda &amp; Heartburn</strong></p>
<p>One of the most typical paths to treating heartburn is to water down one big spoon of baking soda in a drink of water. For a number of years, baking soda has been recognized as one of the finest answers to angina. The best thing about baking soda is that is inexpensive. If you use baking soda to treat heartburn symptons, you won&#8217;t need to spend a large amount of money.</p>
<p>Since baking soda is generally available in the food store stores, you don&#8217;t have to go see your GP to get a prescription however, it&#8217;s recommended you check in with your doctor before using it.</p>
<p><strong>Apples &amp; Heartburn </strong></p>
<p>According to mavens, apples are great acid neutralizers. For a few years, people have utilized the natural antacids of apples to alleviate discomforts created by the symptoms of heartburn. The nice thing about an apple is that you can eat as much as you like without getting any detrimental effects. The more apples you eat, the better off you&#8217;ll be.</p>
<p>Apples are terribly rich in fibers and vitamins that would help your body maintain a healthy and powerful disposition.</p>

<p>Most people have stomach acid reflux at some time in their lives, either as heartburn or acid regurgitation. When refluxed stomach acid touches the lining of the esophagus, it causes a burning sensation in the chest or throat called heartburn. The burning, pressure, or pain of heartburn can last as long as 2 hours and is often worse after eating.</p>

What works best to treat heartburn depends on what foods or other factors may be causing the heartburn. Anyone who suffers from persistent heartburn, typically defined as heartburn symptoms experienced two or three times per week, should have their symptoms evaluated by their physician. Even people who experience symptoms only once a week may feel that they have persistent heartburn.</p>

Tomatoes and citrus fruits are foods that cause heartburn in some people. These highly acidic foods can lead to excess stomach acid and may cause heartburn. The causes of heartburn vary from individual to individual. Some people are not bothered by tomatoes or oranges, but may be bothered by fried or spicy foods. It is sometimes necessary to keep a food diary to isolate the foods that cause heartburn in your own diet.</p>

The typical American diet includes many foods that may cause heartburn. Fried foods, spicy foods and fats of all kinds can lead to heartburn. The tendency to eat two or three large meals as opposed to several smaller meals throughout the day probably causes a lot of cases of heartburn. Symptoms often follow large meals and lead to the need for antacids or heartburn herbal remedies. Eating a small meal every couple of hours may not only be what helps with heartburn, but what helps one lose extra pounds. Overweight people experience heartburn more often than those who are at their ideal weight.</p>

Stress, smoking, drinking alcoholic or carbonated beverages and even certain types of exercise are all heartburn causes and treatments of heartburn that are effective often include efforts to reduce stress and smoking; drinking more water, less sodas and beer. While moderate regular exercise is helpful, squatting, bending and running can bring on or worsen heartburn. Any exercise, other than a leisurely stroll, that follows a meal, particularly a large one, will often bring on heartburn.</p>

Efforts to reduce stress, eating in a relaxed environment, chewing slowly may all help prevent heartburn. Eating on the run is one of the leading causes of heartburn. It is next to impossible to avoid everything that may cause heartburn all the time, but it is possible to quit smoking, eat smaller meals, get regular exercise and avoid alcohol and carbonated beverages. Anyone who experiences heartburn two or three times per week should have their symptoms evaluated by a physician. The best treatment for heartburn may be a prescription drug, but should include lifestyle changes and efforts to avoid the leading causes of heartburn, as well.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Some companies that sell herbs and other natural products have concoctions that include a combination of herbs for frequent heartburn prevention as well as heartburn relief. A combination of herbs for heartburn relief may be more effective than just one type of herb. Fennel and mint oils are commonly recommended, but some doctors advise that mint of any kind can bring on heartburn. Whenever you are buying herbs and other natural products, you should choose an established company that sells a number of different products, not just herbs for heartburn relief.</p>

The fact that they had Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep playing thinly disguised versions of Carl Bernstein and Ephron probably made them bigger, fatter targets. In fact, the film was a genuinely funny and painful look at the effects of marital infidelity and divorce, in the story of two married writers and what happens when the pregnant wife finds out the husband has been fooling around behind her back. The film is more dramatic and less quip-filled than Ephron&#8217;s novel, which made the Ephron character a food writer and was peppered with recipes. <p>When you are pregnant, it seems that your body works at giving you grief.  As if it were trying to rebel for you allowing yourself to get pregnant.  However, one of the worst things about pregnancy can be heartburn, so finding heartburn relief during pregnancy can be a top priority.  Cocoa butter will take care of the possibility of stretch marks but heartburn can leave you flat miserable.  Mainly because there are only so many ways that you can sleep when you are pregnant and you are already uncomfortable enough.</p>

<p>Probably the simplest way to get rid of heartburn is to do what you can to avoid it in the first place.  There are of course certain foods and beverages that can result in a very upset stomach, many of them being the ones you will no doubt crave.  Foods such as chocolates, carbonated drinks, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes, vinegar, mustard, mint products and processed meats.  Not to mention those spicy foods and the ones that are seasoned a bit too well, or even the fried and fatty foods.  I&#8217;ve probably just sank your ship if you crave any of the things on that list.  Sorry gals, if you want to try your best to avoid heartburn then these are the ones that you need to steer away from.</p>

<p>I remember when I first got pregnant I figured that was my ticket to being able to eat what I want when I wanted it.  Again, another dream went up in smoke.  When pregnant it is actually best to try and refrain from eating any heavy meals.  Instead, try to replace those big meals with a few small meals spread throughout the day.  So no pigging out and no overindulging yourself over a buffet.  Keep it simple girls. </p>

<p>If you already have heartburn though and need some heartburn relief during pregnancy then some simple exercises such as bending at the knees instead of bending at the waist can bring you some relief.  Clothing is also something to consider.  Try to wear stuff that is loose and comfortable instead of ones that are tight around the waist and baby tummy area.</p>

<p>Something very simple that can help with heartburn relief during pregnancy is to chew some gum before you eat.  And your mom told you that bubble gum was bad for you.  Nevertheless, if you chew some before eating then that stimulates the saliva glands, which work to neutralize the acids that cause heartburn.  Sleeping with a couple of pillows propped under your head can also help to relieve heartburn, as it keeps any acid from making its way back up.</p>

<p>Trying to find heartburn relief during pregnancy isn&#8217;t always easy because you are always wanting to make sure that the baby is first on the list of priorities.  But all of these remedies that I&#8217;ve listed are truly safe for the baby.  No sense in you having to suffer with something if you don&#8217;t have to.</p>

Products range from simple over-the-counter indigestion relievers to prescription drugs for heartburn relief. But is heartburn relief possible without drugs of any kind?</p>
<p>It has been said that only about 1 out of 100 people who take drugs for heartburn relief really need them. Heartburn, like every other pain in your body, is a warning signal. It is telling you that something must be changed.</p>
<p>If the warning light in your car tells you to check your engine, you do not ask a mechanic to disconnect the light so it will not bother you. That is asking for a bigger problem! You ask the mechanic to check the engine, and correct the root problem that causes the light to come on.</p>
<p>Heartburn relief should not be a matter of turning off the &#8220;warning light&#8221; so you don&#8217;t see it. Heartburn relief should address the root cause of the warning light.</p>
<p><strong>Cause of Heartburn</strong></p>
<p>In simple terms, heartburn is a muscular problem.</p>
<p>The lower esophageal sphincter (LES), a specialized ring of muscle located at the end of the esophagus, opens when you swallow to let food pass into the stomach. It then closes quickly to keep things in the stomach. When the LES doesn&#8217;t close quickly enough, or reopens at the wrong time, stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. The acid on the sensitive lining of the lower esophagus causes a burning sensation.</p>
<p>True heartburn relief must make the LES operate properly. It must keep the LES from relaxing inappropriately, or it must strengthen the LES. How can that be done?</p>
<p>How can you get true heart relief without drugs?</p>
<p><strong>1. Diet</strong></p>
<p>Heartburn relief must obviously pay attention to the food that is moving from the esophagus into the stomach. We are all different. Our stomachs produce differing amounts of gastric juices, with differing degrees of acidity. The food you eat must be digestible by your individual system.</p>
<p>Returning to our vehicle illustration, what happens when you use improper fuel? It isn&#8217;t long until the engine lets you know! If the fuel contains water or sediment, or if the octane level is wrong, you will know. All you have to do is listen to your engine.</p>
<p>Heartburn relief requires listening to your body. The next time you have heartburn, think back to what &#8220;fuel&#8221; you just put into your body. What did you eat? Write it down and forget it for now. Do this each time you have heartburn. After a month, look over the list. Does the same &#8220;fuel&#8221; always demand heartburn relief? Avoiding that fuel may be your answer.</p>
<p><strong>2. Actions</strong></p>
<p>The failure of your muscle to keep the door closed between stomach and esophagus may be as simple a matter as your actions. You may be doing things that make the door open.</p>
<p>Eating too fast, eating too much, or not chewing food well can all contribute to heartburn. Bending at the waist after eating is commonly connected to heartburn, as is tight clothing. Allowing yourself to become overweight puts undue pressure on that area of the body, an action best corrected by losing weight. Going to bed on a full stomach or exercising too soon after eating will also call for heartburn relief.</p>
<p>Your heartburn relief may be as simple as changing your actions. Try eating more slowly, and chewing every bite thoroughly before swallowing. This incorporates more saliva, which helps the stomach digest the food. Stop eating before you are too full. Wait at least 2 hours after eating before exercising &#8211; at least 3 hours before going to bed. Addressing other actions that put pressure on the lower esophagus may also bring heartburn relief.</p>
<p><strong>3. Water</strong></p>
<p>Another factor in heartburn relief is the consumption of adequate amounts of clean water. If you suffer heartburn during or after exercise, you may simply be dehydrated. Every muscle, including the LES that prevents backflow of stomach juices, needs sufficient water to function well. Be sure you drink plenty of water daily, with extra when exercising.</p>
<p><strong>4. Garlic</strong></p>
<p>Garlic provides heartburn relief for many, especially those who have H. Pylori. H. pylori is a bacterium found in the stomach. It works with acid secretion to damage stomach tissue, causing inflammation and contributing to heartburn. For heartburn relief, try eating 1 or 2 cloves of fresh, raw garlic daily until the H. pylori is eliminated.</p>
<p><strong>5. Oxygen</strong></p>
<p>Have you considered whether you are breathing deeply and regularly? As noted above, the root cause of heartburn is muscular. Muscles demand oxygen for efficient functioning. If, because of stress or poor habits, you fail to breathe deeply and regularly, you deprive the LES of the oxygen it needs to be strong and operate properly.</p>
<p>Heartburn relief for you may be as simple as deep, regular breathing during and after eating. It will help you relax, and will send adequate oxygen to the sphincter muscle that prevents or permits heartburn.</p>
